“You can totally tell this movie was shot in Toronto,” says man about movie set in Toronto

– While watching a movie at home with friends, local cinephile Jacob Meznik repeatedly pointed out all the times the movie gave away that it was clearly shot in Toronto, blissfully unaware that the movie was set in Toronto.

“Look! As they’re walking, you can see the reflection of a streetcar in the window behind them,” said Meznik about a scene where the two leading stars share a slice of pizza at Bitondo’s before heading to see a show at The Royal.

“Is that the CN tower in the background? It’s like they’re not even trying.”

Meznik spent much of the two hour runtime pointing out scenes that were “clearly Toronto” in the Toronto set , like the fact that during the scene at what is unmistakably Comedy Bar, the tv above the bar had a Raptors game playing, or that an extra was wearing a ‘Sam The Record Man’ shirt in the scene where the couple about to fall in love eat a Beef Patty in Bathurst Station.

“I guess I just have an eye for details the filmmakers lack,” said Meznik, referring to the director, Marcia Cromstead, who has repeatedly described Toronto as the ‘third star’ of her rom-com.”

“We thought about telling him but honestly it was pretty funny watching him point out little Toronto details when the entire third act of the movie takes place in The Skydome,” said friend Leanne.

At press time Meznik had discovered the movie was not only set in Toronto, but was actually a Canadian production, and immediately liked it 48% less.
