TORONTO – Ben Mulroney, temporary host of Global News’ political affairs program The West Block and self-proclaimed “Not A Journalist,” recently accidentally shared a fake footage video of him being a media personality Canada respects.
The video, which he shared on X, mistakenly portrays him as someone with any political or news-related integrity whatsoever. A 30-second clip shows him shaking hands with various important Canadian media figures, all of whom know who he is and proclaiming things like, “That’s well-researched, vital work you’re doing, Ben,” or “You’re a credit to the Global News name.”
Though Mulroney has refused to take the video down, he did apologize for the obvious confusion in an on-air press conference.
“Look, I thought it was real, because it reminded me of all the things I see in my dreams after I cry myself to sleep,” Mulroney stated, squinting hard at the section of the video where his mother tells Ben she’s proud of his work as a Canadian Idol host. “Must have been AI or something.
“But it could be true, right? Like, there’s a world in which some of you admire me? Right? Why is no one saying anything?!”
This isn’t the first time Mulroney has shared misinformation on his social media. A month ago, he posted a video of his boss at Global News telling him that if he “Kept up the good work, he might not be replaced as soon as humanly possible when Mercedes Stephenson comes back from parental leave.” The post was immediately Community Noted as being fake news.
At press time, Ben insisted on ending his press conference by reminding the audience, unprompted, that there was no genocide happening in Gaza.
