Canada rallies around its favourite city

– In the wake of a devastating attack at Yonge & Finch that left 10 dead and many more injured, Canadians from coast to coast have come together to support the city they have always loved more than any other.

“The news was just heartbreaking,” said Denise Chong of , “but seeing the way people came together to help each other and the injured really shows why… Toronto is the best city in .”

“Even though it doesn’t have mountains or an ocean!” she added as her jaw clenched.

Like the French with Paris and Americans with , Canadians have always had a soft-spot for the city they affectionately refer to as ‘The Centre of the Universe.’ But Monday’s event has shone an even greater light on this relationship, said Jean DeBeouf of

“Oh I adore Toronto. Its so big, and noisy, and filled with giant glass condo buildings. Way more condos than Montreal has, that’s for sure!”

“This event has really made me admire the people of Toronto,” said a visibly shaking Arthur Hendricks of St. John’s. “From the restraint showed by the arresting officer, to the grace under pressure of the citizens, to the–” Hamilton then paused to take a drink of water, “way that their always makes it onto the national news for some reason.”

Hendricks added, “I love the city and people of Toronto, and that’s definitely not a new or recent thing.”

Perhaps the greatest support has come from the prairie provinces, that have long admired Toronto’s team, position as the financial capital of Canada, and tendency to vote Liberal in just about every federal .

“Toronto is just the best. The best,” said Calgarian Thomas MacIntosh as he slowly jammed his car keys into his thigh.

For their part Torontonians said they really appreciated all the support from the parts of Canada they have never, and will never visit.
