Hardest working senator only manages 400 vacation days per year

OTTAWA – Following recent scandals in the Upper House, workhorse Liberal senator Nick Sibbeston has rallied support by publicly revealing that he barely manages 13 months of vacation time per year.

“If you really want to make a difference in your country you will have to make some personal sacrifices,” said Sibbeston. “I’ve cut my weekends from 13 days down to 7 and my secretary says that these days my coffee breaks are barely 36 hours.”

Sibbeston made his fiery remarks on the Senate floor in front of a packed audience of nearly seven senators.

“Many people wrongly accuse the Senate of laziness, but I know it’s quite the opposite,” Sibbeston said. “In fact, when you consider how hard I work during the rest of the year, 400 days is barely a vacation at all.”

Several other senators echoed Sibbeston’s remarks, calling for more media attention on all the good work the Senate achieves.

“I flew back and forth across Canada several hundred times in order to further our nation and its interests,” said senator Janis Johnson. “And I have the travel reimbursements to prove it.”

The Harper government has lauded the commitment to excellence of Sibbeston and his colleagues.

“As the main check and balance on the activities of a majority government we’re happy to hear that they’re working as hard as they are,” said Prime Minister .

At press time, Sibbeston was railing against a bill that would make Senate vacation days unpaid.
