CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Overt racist speech has narrowly won out over the more traditional dogwhistle racist messaging this past Sunday, with “Loud Racism” officially becoming the new leader of the B.C. Conservative Party.
Voting in the leadership election took four rounds, with ‘No Racism’ landing solidly in last place, followed by ‘Moderate Racism’ and ‘Casual Racism’, leaving ‘Loud Racism’ and ‘Quiet Racism’ to compete in the finals, where Loud Racism won by a narrow two-percent of the vote.
Following former B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad’s resignation last December, the race was largely dominated by questions over how overtly the party should oppose the rights of Indigenous people. All candidates at a minimum pledged to repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, commonly known as DRIPA, but differed slightly in how much more racist they would be after that.
“Repealing DRIPA has really become the focal point of the policy platform for the entire conservative movement in B.C.,” said Aisha Estey, president of the BC Conservative Party. “But past that, opinions are mixed. Some just want to see anti-property land acknowledgements stopped, others want to see anti-white Indigneous history removed from school curriculums, and many are here because they’re rightfully afraid ‘a gang of armed Indians will show up’ at their door and say their home actually belongs to them.”
Supporters of Loud Racism were jubilant at both the B.C. Conservative Party headquarters in Campbell River, as well as at Loud Racism’s campaign office.
“I don’t really mind natives, they’re kind, honest, hardworking people, I suppose,” said one Loud Racism supporter at the campaign office. “But I just really don’t want to have to see them, or hear them, and I especially don’t want to have to think about what we did to them and what we continue to do to them, so I voted for the candidate that I thought would best make these wishes a reality.”
At the podium celebrating her victory, Loud Racism proclaimed, “The era of woke, SOGI, and natives having a place in British Columbia will soon be coming to an end!”
After the results were announced, a spokesperson from the BC New Democratic Party commented: “We are encouraged by these results, and will continue to provide a thoughtful, compassionate, silent racism alternative to the demagoguery chosen by the B.C. Conservative party base.”
