Newfoundland taxes books after caving to powerful illiterate lobby

ST JOHN’S – Reports indicate that the Government of and Labrador’s decision to tax books was mostly a result of heavy lobbying from the province’s popular functionally illiterate lobby.

The Anni-Edjucashun Leegue, which is mostly made up of old high bullies, had been pushing the Dwight Ball Liberal government to put an end to what it calls “nerd stuff.”

“Nearly half the province has a low-literacy level,” explained Education Minister Dale Kirby. “We have to listen to this group.”

According to the lobby’s website, their objectives were simple: “Ehleets hav bean rooinin thsi pravance fer yeers. We dayman a book tacks! No reeding fer fre!” The group also attempted to organize a March for Illiteracy in St. John’s, but protesters could not follow the confusing instructions provided by organizers.

This is the second victory for group that hates to read or critically think. Last year, 54 public libraries were placed on the chopping block after they presented the government with a petition from supporters who simply signed their with an ‘X’
