Family spends entire long weekend stuck in traffic

TORONTO – The Warringtons of Toronto, Ontario got away from the big city over the long weekend by sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic as a family.

“This was a bonding experience for us,” said Stan Warrington, a Junior HR manager and father of 2 girls.

“It was good to get out with the wife and kids and reconnect with the majesty of mother nature from within the confines of our 2012 Sorento.”

The 81 hour excursion began Friday morning at 8am, with both Stan and his wife Julia booking-off work to get an early start on the petty and unnecessarily aggressive traffic you endure just to make it onto the highway.

“We all got to see lots of road and condominium construction, complete with paid-duty police officers, and a woman in a neon orange vest holding a sign to stop and slow traffic for their large vehicles,” said Julia.

Originally the Warringtons were invited to stay at their friend’s cottage North of Orillia. However, as with all life, it was the journey, not the destination that would matter most, only in this case it was because the family never actually made their destination. After the trip to the end of highway 400 Northeast of Barrie took a day-and-half, the Warringtons calculated that they needed to turn around immediately to make it back in time for 6 year-old Mandy’s and 8 year-old Jesse’s bedtime Monday night, so they can wake up early the next morning to drive them both to school.

“Both of us were able to take shifts driving while the other slept, switching it up at the next gas station every 5 to 6 hours, which really helped us make great time. The girls kept busy playing lots of games and watching lots of movies in the back. They even made some friends by rolling down their windows and talking to other kids stuck in the backs of their parent’s cars while we all sat idling in a vast sea of motionless automobiles,” said Julia.

“We were even able to switch drivers while driving a couple of times,” added Stan.

Next year, the family plans to stay in the city and get stuck on the TTC on their way to the airport.
