Dave Keon begins crafting hit single in hopes of finally getting banner in ACC

TORONTO – With successfully getting a banner at the Air Canada Centre, former Toronto Maple Leaf legend Dave Keon has decided to emulate the band’s approach to finally get his number displayed above the rafters.

“They won’t hoist up my number for helping them sell out seats for twenty years,” said the former captain as he tried to tune a recently purchased acoustic guitar while in line for a recording booth on Yonge Street. “Or for winning them four Stanley Cups. But maybe, if I can just top the charts with a glamorous power ballad I could do it.”

The former Conn Smythe trophy winner acknowledged that he faced a hard task, but that it was nowhere near as hard as having to play under the late former owner of the team, Harold Ballard.

“And back then, didn’t have Brian Eno to help me” Keon added while setting his electric keyboard to pan flute.

Fans have been sceptical of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment’s recent move to honour Bon Jovi, but Keon says he’s relieved by it.

He then launched into the chorus of a song he calls “Honour Me, Baby.”

“He was the greatest skater they ever had

Scoring goals and winning cups like he was almost mad

Twenty years with his team beloved by his city

But he couldn’t sing a pop song oh what a pity

Honour me, baby

Honour me, baby

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah”

When approached for comment MLSE President and CEO Tim Leiweke said he was unfamiliar with Keon, but is certain the banner of an old 1980s rock star from New Jersey who knows nothing about hockey will inspire the Leafs to bring home the Cup.
