Ottawa reminds nation that ‘veterans’ are not mentioned in ‘Support our Troops’

OTTAWA – After federal government lawyers argued that the government has no social obligation to veterans, the Minister of Veteran Affairs clarified that the term “veteran” was not contained in the popular slogan and therefore is not government policy.

“We support the troops, but I have no clue to where the idea of supporting veterans came from” said Julian Fantino the Minister of Veteran Affairs in a press conference yesterday at CFB Petawawa. “Troops make better photo ops with their uniforms, guns and equipment. All veterans want to do is drone on about post-traumatic stress, housing, pensions and how they defeated Hitler. Boring.”

“We gave them a pat on the back and we’ll see them at Remembrance Day.” Fantino added.

The Minister also claimed he checked government slogans from other departments including “The New Government of Canada”, “Jobs, Growth and Long-Term Prosperity” and “You’re either with us or the child-pornographer”, but couldn’t find any reference to providing basic needs to veterans.
