VANCOUVER – To the relief of his friends and colleagues, local man Brett Kraftson finally watched the iconic The Shawshank Redemption earlier this week.

Kraftson finally takes the time to watch a modern classic.

“I figured it was about time,” said Kraftson, regarding his decision to view the well-received, and very widely viewed film that everyone he knows has already seen and that is often referenced in conversation.

“On Halloween, my buddy Sully dressed up as Andy Duphresne and the whole night I was like, ‘Who the hell are you supposed to be again?’ And he was like, ‘You should have dressed up as a guy who lives under a rock.’ It was embarrassing.”

Kraftson’s wife, Jodie, has struggled with her husband’s ignorance of the film which received 7 Oscar nominations and won countless other awards. “At parties it could get uncomfortable. Someone would say, ‘Get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’, and we’d all laugh. And there’s Brett, looking confused, like it was real advice, and not a Morgan Freeman impression.”

“I mean, he’s seen Robocop like, 40 times, how about a modern classic for God’s sake?” she added.

While buoyed by his friend’s foray into watching “the greatest film of all time,” Kraftson’s college pal Sullivan Burton expressed dismay at his friend’s decision to watch the movie alone.

“I get that solitary confinement is a big part of the film, and Andy’s journey is that of a single man seeking redemption. Still, I always thought Brett and I would watch it together. But then it comes on TBS one night, and boom, now he can’t stop talking about it. He’s like ‘That scene when the warden finds the hollow wall behind Andy’ sexy poster was so awesome!’ I was like, ‘I know!’”

When asked his opinion regarding The Shawshank Redemption, Kraftson was guardedly positive. “Of course everyone was right, it was great,” he said. “Not Robocop great, but a real nice time.”
