Ontario enters late-19th century with beer sales at grocery stores

TORONTO – The Ontario government’s decision to change liquor laws and permit the sale of beer in grocery stores will put the progressive province on par with the laws from the 1890s.

“While I know I will be called a radical by many in the temperance movement, it was a morally sound decision,” said Ontario Premier . “People who have been dead for decades would have disagreed with this move, but real leadership was required to bring Ontario almost into the 20th century.”

Despite permitting the sale of beer in 450 grocery outlets, sources say Wynne was forced to compromise with the long-defunct Women’s Christian Temperance Movement Union to create a Beer Ombudsman and increase the tax on beer sales.

“I can promise that this government will consider the sale of 12 packs in all grocery stores within the next 120 years,” added Wynne.
