Montreal police apologize for threatening homeless man, promise to tie him up in better weather

MONTREAL – After recent criticism for their handling of an under dressed homeless person in Montreal by Police during subzero temperatures, the Montreal Police  have confirmed that all public itinerant detentions will be pushed to the spring.

“What our officer did is inexcusable” said Montreal Police’s head of public affairs Ian Lafrenière about the practice called Outdoor Vagrant Detention procedure otherwise known as the ‘Hobo-Pole.’ “Think how bad it would have been if the officer’s hands got cold or the assailant got in the way of sidewalk snow removal vehicles.”

The police officer who threatened to tie up the impoverished man will face a disciplinary hearing on Monday for being inconsiderate of his own personal safety and others who may have had to walk in the snow to avoid the panhandler.

The homeless person in the video was not available for comment, but was reportedly last seen being dragged out of a Metro station by Security for sleeping on a bench.
