Chinese government reports New Year’s fireworks display sounded spectacular through smog

BEIJING – Chinese government officials have reported that the country’s annual New Year’s fireworks display sounded spectacular for all those who could hear the display since it was completely obscured by a thick blanket of smog.

“This new year has captured the imagination of the people of China” said senior communist party member Zhang Dejiang. “You could hear the tremendous booming for over an hour, and many wondered where it was coming from.”

The fireworks released sulfur-dioxide fumes, which, state media report, only added to the, “beautiful and mysterious nature to what is typically one of the most visible displays imaginable.”

“From the sounds of it, the show was an awesome display of pyrotechnics, which showed the might of China’s industrious creativity” one masked spectator said.

According to Chinese astrology, 2014 is the year of the horse, which is also an animal that can survive living in Chinese cities for up to a month.
