Grieving woman trauma dumps to therapist who just wanted to catch up

BetterHelp, ON – Dr. Shelley Roberts was shocked when her therapy client started talking about intimate details of her life when all she wanted was a light catch up.

“I just didn’t think it was that kind of hang,” said Dr. Roberts about the $300 appointment her client had made. “I feel recently I keep having these meetups where people just dump on me when I really have a lot happening in my life right now and can’t deal. These meetings are about a brief catch up, and about 20 minutes of data-mining, or that’s what is was meant to be.”

While Shelley was open to the idea of having a real talk, she just thought that there should be some things that are just not on the table when speaking to a non-registered psychotherapist found through recommendation from a grifting influencer.

Faux-therapy therapists have made moves to inform the public about oversharing during therapy sessions, asking patients to consider the personal feelings of these untrained therapists and consider whether the information they’re giving actually matters.

“I had no idea I was burdening my expensive therapist,” explained Simon Hallaway, a client whose full name was given to us by his therapist saying he probably wouldn’t mind. “I will make a more conscious effort to check in with them before talking about myself next time.”

Dr. Shelley made an effort to seek counseling to talk about her recent problems with clients; however, her own therapist she found through an influencer’s commercial found it was a bit of an over-share when she tried to talk about it.
