Newspapers refuse to publish unrealistic personal ads

— The and both announced today that they will no longer be publishing unrealistic personal ads.

“As the winter season nears and the personal ads grow, we both felt it was necessary to come forward with this change,” said News Editor John Thompson. “We’ve seen a number of personals that simply put will never happen. You can’t have 6’3 man who has never been divorced; he does not exist. Or a ‘very special woman’. No one can be that special. Come on people.”

Speaking on behalf of Whitehorse Star, editor Jim Butler said the majority of the personals ads being submitted are coming from people new to the Territory.

“Toronto,” said Butler, when asked where most of the Cheechakos were from. “They’ve clearly never spent a winter in the Yukon.”

Thompson says today’s announcement means the paper will have more space for more pressing classifieds such as garage sale listings, ‘did you see that’ UFO club and Sasquatch Sightings.
