Public servant fired for standing near election sign

OTTAWA — Making good on the promise to crack down on public servants participating in politics, the has fired a federal civil servant for standing too close to an election sign.

Amanda Van Lyle, an administrative assistant for Public Works and Government Services, was caught standing near a lawn sign while waiting to take the 95 Bus to work.

“Public servants are not permitted to come within 40 meters of a candidate’s election sign or make direct eye contact with any political advertising,” said a Department of Justice spokesperson. “This could be perceived as political bias. We must avoid any perception that public servants have opinions, interact with the public or are ordinary human beings.”

The Department of Justice is also taking further steps by demanding all government employees have their social media posts pre-approved and ensure all photos are in black-and-white to avoid any partisan colours of red, green, orange or blue.

According to sources, all public servants liking this article on Facebook have been fired.
