SYDNEY-HANTS, NS – A Nova Scotia NDP candidate is still undecided on which party she will vote for in the federal election.
Marlene Campbell, a human rights activist and lawyer, said she has to make a tough decision in the next ten days.
“I really like Jagmeet, but my chances are slim,” said the Roxbury-Hauntings East candidate while knocking on doors in a quiet suburban neighbourhood. “Imagine if Singh led the Liberals instead? I would vote for him in a heartbeat.”
Campbell said she was disappointed with Justin Trudeau’s scandal plagued government and his failure to change the first-past-the-post voting system.
“I’m not feeling the Liberals especially after this campaign,” said Campbell who previously voted Liberal as an NDP candidate in 2015. “It’s been gaffe after gaffe, but who else am I going to vote for that could reasonably stop the Conservatives?
God, I hate strategic voting.”
Campbell said she spent hours researching each party platform, including her own, to see who would be the best fit and said she might make her decision at the last all-candidates debate in her riding next Wednesday.
Back at NDP Headquarters, partisans were encouraging Canadians to vote for who they want, unless they’re throwing their vote away on the Green Party, so they should just vote NDP to avoid a Liberal or Conservative majority government.
