CALGARY – The recent resurgence of measles across North America has drawn widespread criticism, with observers condemning the outbreak as yet another creatively-bankrupt nostalgia remake driven almost entirely by anti-vaccine communities unwilling to engage with any actual modern problems.
“I mean, we’re living in a world with AI replacing jobs, climate collapse, and widening wealth inequality,” said epidemiological critic Dr. Jasmine Hersh. “There’s no shortage of bold, new ways to destroy society, but instead of investing in fresh uncharted hellscapes, they just rebooted measles. How mid.”
Critics were especially disappointed that the remake failed to justify its own existence, noting that measles was already conclusively resolved decades ago and required active sabotage to bring back. “At best, this is a shot-for-shot remake, minus the shots,” notes Hersh. “At worst, it’s a cynical reboot that exists solely because a small but vocal fanbase refuses to accept evolving canon.”
In response, the reboot’s main executive producer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pushed back against criticism. “This isn’t a reboot,” Kennedy said in a strained, gravelly statement. “It’s a respectful return to a beloved classic that was unfairly erased by so called ‘modern medicine.’ If anything, we’re just honoring the source material the way it was meant to be experienced.”
RFK has additionally praised this measles reboot as “fun for the whole family,” citing its strong appeal to children in particular and its commitment to a hands-on, immersive experience.
However, many insiders say RFK Jr. has embraced the reboot as both an inevitable consequence of his advocacy work and a symbolic final revenge by the Kennedy family against the general American public. “After everything that family’s been through,” adds Dr. Hersh, “it’s kind of poetic they’d finish off the country responsible by bringing back diseases we already beat.”
Currently emboldened by the near-impossible feat of resurrecting measles, anti-vaxxers were in talks to revive more dead IPs like polio, whooping cough, and maybe even segregation in an ‘extended preventable illness universe,’ although it seems like an uphill battle since the schedule has to work around the one day the anti-vaxxers have custody of their kids.
