When will there be a men’s earth day?

By: Karl Smith

For the last of 47 years people all over the world have celebrated to draw attention to environmental protection and for 47 years I have wondered when will there be a ’s Earth Day? A day when men are celebrated for their contribution to the environment. What message are we sending to young boys if there are days that don’t specifically celebrate them? That everything isn’t about them? That they aren’t intrinsically better than other people? That’s not the world I want to live in.

Men’s Earth Day would recognise all the wonderful things men have done for the environment. Men are the ones who are trying to protect the environment. Think of all the that Al Gore (man) and David Suzuki (another man) have done. When a woman try to protect the planet they just end up following a bunch of dumb monkeys around like Jane Goodall.

Now that we are on the subject why is it always ‘Mother ’, why not ‘Daddy Earth’, ‘Penis Planet’? If the earth is important then it should be referred to in the masculine tense, the same as everything else that is important in the world. I would like to remember that it is “the earth” not “she earth”

I know some social justice warrior is going to say that I’m missing the point of Earth Day, that Earth Day is meant to highlight the responsibility to care for the environment and has nothing to do with gender. To those people I say that you’re a misandrist who is oppressing me for having a penis. I’m not sure if you understand how the world works but when I disagree with someone I am providing an illuminating intellectual counter point and when someone questions me it is a vicious attack on the freedom of speech that is the foundation of our democracy.

After Men’s Earth Day I am going to focus Father Earth and protecting a male environment.
