Our city needs to bind together and do something about the issue currently making headlines

By Catherine Del Pierro

Today I would like to write about something that desperately needs all of our attention. Our city has neglected this matter for too long, whatever it is. Yes, it’s time for all of us to bind together and do something about the big issue everyone cares about.

Now that this issue is making headlines, I feel this is the time to act. If we don’t do something soon, things will get worse. Bad things will happen to us, not to mention our precious children. There will be a lot of suffering, or lost jobs, or terrible disease.

We may even be faced with death. Death for years to come, maybe. Earthquakes? Probably. Explosions? I don’t know, but probably. What I can tell you is somewhere in the world there will be these things and possibly worse things going on, and our community will be affected either directly or indirectly or both. So it’s time to act.

Take a look at the front page of this newspaper, and you’ll see exactly what issue I’m talking about. Or perhaps page three. Not page two anyway. But maybe. And definitely if there’s a multi-paged feature. The bottom line is: now that the issue is making headlines, we can’t ignore it anymore, and we need to act before it’s no longer in the spotlight because it will be really hard to rally for support once people no longer know what the issue is. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen over and over to all this stuff from before. So let’s do something, anything, right now. Scream out the window if that’s the least you can do.

What are our politicians doing about this big issue that’s going on right now? Not enough, I say. As usual, they’re posturing about, just mentioning the issue at hand, but what are they doing at the end of the day? Nothing.

One would have hoped that they’d have changed that habit since the last time they proved apathetic about that other really important issue that time. Well, they all need to stop resting on their laurels and acknowledge that the issue should have been resolved already and finally do something for a change.

Are you with me here?

Let’s change the world… starting with this thing.
