MONTREAL – Montreal-based Air Transat will install a breathalyzer ignition interlock system on all of their fleet’s aircraft to prevent any further incidents of inebriated pilots.
“Clearly, our public messages about the dangers of drinking and flying are not getting through to our pilots,” explained Air Transat CEO Jean-Marc Eustache. “For training, we show that movie starring Denzel Washington where he’s a pill-popping, alcoholic pilot, but some our employees think it’s a joke.”
Before take-off, Air Transat pilots will also be required to walk in a straight line and recite the phonetic alphabet backwards to prove their sobriety.
