Canada’s Wonderland unveils ‘Room’-themed roller coaster

Vaughan, ON – Canada’s Wonderland has revealed a new roller coaster inspired by the harrowing Oscar-nominated film Room that will make its debut at the theme park this summer.

Expected to be a hit with film buffs, the ride hopes to give customers the same thrills and spills they got in the cinema.

“The Roomercoaster, as we call it, delivers a totally unique and immersive entertainment experience that’s every bit as exciting as the movie,” said Wonderland public relations manager Claire Tompkins during a recent launch event

Room, based on Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue’s 2010 novel, tells the story of Jack, a five-year-old boy, who is being held captive by a violent sex offender in a small room with his mother.

“The ride recreates key moments from the film,” said Tompkins. “At one point, the roller coaster stops underground and customers have to stay there for an indeterminate amount of time with no access to food, water or fresh air.

“There’s also a fun moment when passengers have to convince a frightened child that everything’s going to be alright. But my favorite part of the ride is the sudden, breathtaking drop that mirrors Brie Larson’s emotional collapse when she realizes how hard life in the real world will be.”

“I’ve seen Room 24 times and this just brings it to a whole different level,” said Roger Desouza, 19, part of a group of hardcore Room fans, known as “Roomies,” who were given special access to the roller coaster before the public.

“Like the movie, this ride totally rocks!”

And for those who don’t enjoy the intensity of roller coasters, the park is launching another Canadian film-inspired attraction: an Away From Her Ferris wheel.
