Dog suspiciously upbeat at owner’s funeral

BARRIE- Friends and family of recently deceased Toronto resident Alan March have reported that his pet labrador retriever Buddy seemed strangely cheerful at March’s funeral two days ago. “I expected him to be sitting at Alan’s casket, whining and sadly waiting for Alan to get up,” said March’s sister Janice. “Instead he just sat there, happily licking himself.”

“He didn’t even do that thing where he stands guard over the grave for weeks without eating or drinking,” she added.

March had died in a fire that Buddy alerted March’s neighbor Ed Reines to by scratching at his front door. “At the time I thought it was heroic, but seeing him act so distant at the funeral, I wonder: why did he just happen to be outside at the time?”

At press time, Buddy could not be reached for comment as he had taken the life insurance money and gone on vacation to Mexico.
