An Independent Quebec would keep calling itself Canada, says Marois

QUEBEC – A sovereign Quebec would not necessarily change its name from Canada to Quebec, PQ leader Pauline Marois admitted at a campaign event on Tuesday night

Marois, who previously asserted that an independent Quebec would retain the Canadian dollar and a seat at the , declared that an independent Quebec would be free to do whatever it wanted, including calling itself Canada.

“Changing our name from Canada to Quebec would just confuse everyone”, Marois explained. “After all, our hockey team is called the ‘’, not the ‘Montreal Québécois’!”

“As a further demonstration of our sovereignty, we are considering independently deciding to let Canada’s parliament write of our laws. It’s always been this way, why change it?” the separatist leader asked. “There are no logical reasons I can think of.”

At press time, the PQ was forming a think tank to explore possible names for the country of Quebec. Front runners include : New Canada, Canada 2, Small Canada, The Different Canada, or simply Quanada.
