MADD to text drivers about the dangers of drinking and driving

– Mothers Against Drunk Driving are reminding Canadians not to drink and drive by sending them a text message while they’re driving.

“We think this is a great initiative to raise further awareness about the dangers of getting behind the wheel while drunk,” Gary Olsen, Vice President of the local chapter. “Drinking and driving is the second leading cause of traffic fatalities in Canada behind some other cause.”

MADD also encourages drivers to text or give them a call back to make sure they’re not drunk while they drive. If drivers are intoxicated, they are encouraged to stop immediately, get out of their cars and wait in the middle of the road for police to arrive.

“From their cars, drivers can access educational information such e-books and YouTube videos reminding them about the perils of getting behind the wheel after one-too-many drinks,” Olsen added.

At press time, drivers were way too distracted to drink and drive.
