Calgary Flames: NHL 2014-2015 Season Preview

Team:

Mascot: That kid from the Scotiabank commercial with Jarome Iginla

2013-14 Season: Fans rejoiced as the team that was supposed to be the worst in the finished a respectable fourth worst – accomplishing more in their first season of rebuilding than their northern neighbours have in 10 rebuilding years.

Key Additions:

Mason Raymond. He’ll give young players confidence by showing them that even Mason Raymond can make it in the NHL.

Devin Setoguchi, whose contract guarantees him a hotel room during road trips and little else.

Potential Trades:

Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, and 3 first round picks for Phil Kessel. Burkie needs him some Kessel.

Strengths:

The element of surprise. Other teams haven’t heard of most of these players.

Maybe playing Deryk Engelland like an all-star defenceman will turn him into one?

Weaknesses:

Marc Giordano is unable to play all positions at all times.

The part of the game that requires putting the puck into the other team’s net.

X-Factor:

Can Coach Bob Hartley lure more opposing coaches into getting 15 day suspensions like he did for Torts last year?

Predicted Finish: Connor McDavid
