Update: That Chinese couple is not talking about you

YOUR LOCATION – Contrary to popular opinion, the Chinese couple you see speaking to each other in restaurants, grocery stores, and on the bus are not, in fact, gossiping about you.

In all likelihood, you are like James Hunter, a local man who admits to having “always assumed they had to be talking about me! I mean, they’re speaking another language and glancing at me from time to time. There seemed to be no other possibility.”

Recently, Hunter was at a Chinese restaurant and the owners were standing behind the counter, quietly talking. Hunter stated he was certain the couple had been making “comments about his weight.”

The owner of the restaurant, Bill Wang, 56, explained that he and his wife were discussing . Responding to Hunter’s conjecture, Wang said “Him? We had forgotten he was still in the restaurant.”

The update is great news for Chinese couples everywhere who can feel free to speak to each other without suspicious scrutiny and terrible news for your ego.
