Staunch New Democrat to vote Liberal again

TORONTO – Despite considering himself a strong supporter of the New Democratic Party, local voter Jason Poulos plans to cast his ballot for the Liberals in the upcoming election, as he has in every other federal and provincial election of his life.

“In order for a democracy to function properly, people need to vote with their conscience in every single election,” Poulos said. “That said, it’s really important that the Conservatives don’t win this time.”

Despite freely criticizing the Liberals as crony capitalists who only pay lip service to workers, the environment and aboriginal sovereignty, Poulos said that he knew he was voting Liberal again almost the moment the election was called.

“The NDP have really moved toward the centre recently,” said Poulos, who thinks electoral reform is a ‘key issue’, but has always voted for the last party that would ever implement it. “ would never have done anything like that.”

Friends of Poulos from across the political spectrum have applauded him on his decision.

“Jason wants people on the other end of the political spectrum not to get what they want so much more than he wants to get what he wants, that he’s willing to vote for something that nobody wants,” said Liberal supporter Myra Umar. “And that’s all that the Liberal party has ever really stood for.”

Even Conservative friends have applauded Poulos’ choice, saying that there wasn’t really that much separating them from the Liberals to begin with.

“One of these days, I’m definitely going to vote New Democrat,” said Poulos, who will never, ever actually vote New Democrat. “Just as soon as there’s an election that isn’t really, really important.”

At press time, the writer of this article was almost certainly also going to vote Liberal during the upcoming election.
